One Hundred Percent of Independent Studies Show Dangers of Aspartame
Each year in the United States, about 450,000 persons die of unexpected sudden cardiac death (SCD). Source

Sudden Cardiac Death is the nation’s #1 killer. The heart stops abruptly without warning, and victims die within minutes. It is estimated that 95% of victims die before reaching the hospital. Often SCD happens to outwardly healthy people with no known heart problems; high school, college and professional athletes and thousands of children. External defibrillators (AEDs) are common now at schools and athletic events, as 7,000-10,000 American children and youths are now dying annually from SCD.
SDC Differs From MI
SDC is not a “heart attack” or myocardial infarction, caused by clogged arteries. It occurs when the electrical impulses in the heart are disrupted. The brain quickly starves of oxygen. Dr. James Bowen says that all indepent findings implicate aspartame as the culprit.
CDC Findings Were Covered Up
In Nov 1984 the Center for Disease Control reviewed 213 of 592 cases of aspartame complaints. They included cardiac arrest, seizures, disorientation, hyperactivity, extreme numbness, excitability, memory loss, loss of depth perception, liver impairment, severe mood swings and deaths.
To this report, Dr Frederick L. Trowbridge added an executive summary saying that the complaints were generally of a mild nature. The CDC put this false summary on their website, and left out the investigation.
Medical Text Describes the Problem
J. Roberts, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.C.C.P. is a world-renowned Board Certified and Recertified Internist who declared Aspartame Disease to be a global plague and published the medical text Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic. He is an internationally known medical consultant and independent researcher. He is the Director of the Palm Beach Institute for Medical Research since 1964 and a member of prestigious medical and scientific organizations. They include the American College of Physicians, the Endocrine Society and the American Academy of Neurology. The editors of a national medical publication selected Dr. Roberts as “The Best Doctor in the U.S.” He has been knighted by the Order of St. George for his professional and humanitarian effort. His first text, Difficult Diagnosis, was used by 60,000 doctors, especially to prepare for their Board examinations.
SCD and Diet or Sport Drinks
One article on Cardiomyopathy and Its Relation to Exercise called Sudden Death in Athletes says: “According to the CDC 100,000 young athletes die each year from all cardio-vascular disorders, twice as many as due in auto accidents. Of the 100,000 who die annually, 45,000 are basketball players who consume high amounts of aspartame drinks.
United Press Found Skewed “Research”
An 8 month investigation of aspartame by United Press International found that doctors were threatened about doing research. Only the FDA and industry “research” published positive findings on aspartame – 100% of independent, peer-reviewed research shows the problems. Aspartame Detoxification Centers are now available in some cities.
Aspartame: the Main Damaging Mechanism
Aspartame is composed of 10% methanol, which is toxic to humans. Amongst other results, it causes blindness. In the intestine it breaks down to formaldehyde, another powerful neurotoxin.
Also, free methanol is created from aspartame when it is heated to above 86 Fahrenheit (30 Centigrade). Methanol breaks down into formic acid and formaldehyde in the body. EPA assessment of methanol states that methanol “is considered a cumulative poison due to the low rate of excretion once it is absorbed. In the body, methanol is oxidized to formaldehyde and formic acid; both of these metabolites are toxic.”
The recommended limit of consumption is 7.8 mg/day. A one-liter (approx. 1 quart) aspartame-sweetened beverage contains about 56 mg of methanol. Heavy users consume as much as 250 mg of methanol daily or 32 times the EPA limit. Humans are many times more sensitive to the toxic effects of methanol than animals.
Aspartame consumption seems to be the main reason for SDC in young people and athletes. But aspartame is present in over 9000 food products including children’s vitamins, and very young children are dying or damaged from its effects.
